5.23.09 Losperus at the Roulette Mixology Festival
The press: "Losperus is the name of a new performance paradigm for Evidence. In making electronic music, we have observed that our process tends to be one of gradual layering, guiding, fading, carefully mixing together streams of carefully crafted recordings, textures, and processes with computer software. We began to wonder about leaving our laptops aside and moving this process into the acoustical realm - placing commonplace electrical devices and found objects into unstable relationships with each other, and using friction and gravity to build humming, whirring, rattling contraptions on the fly. Benton-C Bainbridge makes live visuals in much the same spirit, taking an 'acoustic' approach to visuals and spatially amplifying the Losperus devices through light and shadow with hacked slide and film projectors." Roulette Intermedium, 20 Greene Street, New York City. 8:30pm, $15.

Thursdays 3.5-6.18.2009 A Gathering at the Brooklyn Lyceum
My first collaboration as a sound designer with The Nerve Tank, a theater company in residence at the Brooklyn Lyceum. The long rehearsal process is paying off with a long production run, one show every Thursday until June 28, 2009. The opening is March 5, and the gala performance is March 19. More information here. The Brooklyn Lyceum, 227 4th Avenue, between Union and President. 8:30pm $18/15 (student).

2.24-28.09 Evidence's Losperus Tour
In a short mini-tour of the Midwest, the electronic duo Evidence (Stephan Moore and Scott Smallwood) present their newest performance piece in a new paradigm, Losperus. In making electronic music, we have observed that our process tends to be one of gradual layering, guiding, fading, carefully mixing together streams of carefully crafted recordings, textures, and processes with computer software. We began to wonder about leaving our laptops aside and moving this process into the acoustical realm -- placing commonplace electrical devices and found objects into unstable relationships with each other, and using friction and gravity to build humming, whirring, rattling contraptions on the fly. On this tour, we will be collecting objects from local thrift stores, building upon a process of discovery and careful sonic construction.

4.6.08 Kelley Bell's Hydra at the Transmodern Festival
I wrote the Max/MSP patch inside Kelley's crazy creature. Hydra is a very large talking monster: when one addresses the Hydra through a microphone, it repeats what you said back to you: although each of the Hydra?s nine heads regurgitates your speech in a different distorted way. Hydra says a lot of things all at once; each of its heads has its own nuances, its own way of speaking, in an effort to please everyone. A hydra does not lie, but the truth that emerges from the Hydra?s lips is a definite departure from the original. Check out the website for more info.
